Waiheke Home Maximises Views and Connects Indoors with Outdoors
This beautiful home located on Waiheke Island in New Zealand seamlessly connects the indoors with the outdoors so occupants can feel at one with nature. When designing this home it was important to optimise the picturesque views out onto the charming landscape. To this end, the clients chose windows and doors that have been designed to work perfectly in this climate whilst delivering an elegant and comfortable home all year round.
With requirements in the building code demanding more thermally efficient homes via thermal insulation in walls, ceilings and under floors, homes are trapping a lot more heat with nowhere to go. Passive ventilation is thereby a significant design element that was taken into consideration to allow each room to be ventilated and provide a healthy environment for occupants to live.
Glass also plays a unique and important role in the building design envelope of this home. Large spans of bi-fold and sliding doors elegantly open up the view from the patios and deck areas when either opened or closed, while providing high performance glazing to keep the home comfortable. Breezway Louvre Windows have been integrated beside the sliding door to allow airflow to circulate the home when the doors are closed. This assists with keeping the home free from condensation. The patented ‘living hinge’ design of the Breezway Altair Louvre also ensures that when closed, the Louvres seal tight to offer superior wind and water performance.
