Energy Efficient Coastal Home featuring the Double Glazed IGLU System

PALM BEACH, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

A significant amount of effort, determination, and hard work went into creating and building this family home for the Purcell family. The primary project goals centred around achieving high energy performance and utilising sustainably sourced materials.

During the design stage of this project, energy efficiency was a top priority. The home features high-performing insulation in the walls, floor, and ceiling. This insulation helps retain heat in winter and keep out heat in summer. Additionally, double glazing is featured on exterior walls through the use of the Breezway IGLU Louvre System and fixed glazed panels. Breezway Louvres help bring natural ventilation into the home through their unqiue design, and seal tight when closed to further improve thermal insulation and acoustic performance within the home.
These materials incorporated with a mechanical ventilation system help create a healthy indoor environment for the family, mitigating the risk of mould or condensation build-up which is super important to keep a family safe and comfortable.
The kitchen serves as the central hub of the home, where the family spends a significant amount of time together. The loft was thoughtfully designed for the children—a playful area where they can hang out or unwind. Furthermore, the handrails, which extend from downstairs to the second story of the living area, were a significant decision and standout feature of the home.

On many projects, I have sourced recycled and/or ethically sourced products and materials which offer a modern, functional and feel good alternative to new products.” says Steve.
